Accessibility

Legislation was introduced in October of 2005 under the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA), which requires that 'all websites are accessible to both blind and disabled users'.

In brief; this act makes it unlawful for a service provider to discriminate against disabled persons by not providing a service it provides to able customers. Therefore, the service provider has the responsibility to take reasonable steps to change a practice that makes it unreasonably difficult for a disabled person to make use of its services.

The above statement in part requires websites to be made accessible – therefore, the company must make reasonable effort to make the site accessible to all users.

At present there is no specific information or law governing how a website should conform to this new legislation. However, it is widely believed within the W3C (The World Wide Web Consortium) accessibility guidelines will be implemented in the future.

All web sites developed by Visualcode from October 2005 are W3C accessibility guideline compliant
